Circular spaces
"[...] Grid-like meshes of variously sized circular shapes are created. The individual layers, which are composed of circles of roughly the same size butting against each other, can no longer...
...be visually separated from each other because of the dense overlays and unite to form a pulsating pictorial space. What the eye perceives is, from a distance, a floating structure with a shimmering texture. Only when looking for a longer time or approaching closely can the considerable differences between the individual elements be perceived. Naturally, the smaller the diameter of the individual circles, the greater the number of circles needed to cover the entire surface with an even grid. On the other hand, the large circles are more clearly discernible in the tangle of lines. But all the circular forms together make up the specific texture, the spatial and colourful appearance of the panel painting; each element plays its indispensable role. The hierarchical gradient from the largest circles, which fill the entire (almost square) format with three, four or nine shapes, to the smallest ones suggests a metaphorical interpretation. The relationship with structures from biology, physics (one thinks involuntarily of raindrops forming overlapping concentric circles on a surface of water) or sociology is obvious." Sabine Müller,
