...diary while living locked up and hidden from the National Socialists in the back of the house. Today we live in freedom, we can live out our friendships and we take for granted the colourful, culturally diverse and democratic coexistence. In the canteen of the Anne Frank School, the mural "Encounter - Yesterday and Today" shows on two levels the simultaneity of colourful freedom and the unfree life, that which is hidden in the diary.

Between the groups of lines, vistas open up onto the back level. Here, the central legacy of Anne Frank is depicted in the form of the diary pattern. The backlighting of the glass surfaces creates the impression of a room behind. Here the fullness of the diary, its descriptions of Anne Frank's life, is illuminated and figuratively illuminated.
