fire and water
Steel sculpture shows inward red fire view and outward extinguished blue water view. The natural elements of fire and water are...
...firmly interwoven in fire symbolism and yet are opposites. This aspect of inseparability with simultaneous contrast gets a sculptural expression in the artistic work "Fire and Water". Realisation 2019
At the main entrance, a signal-like red play of colours is visible to firefighters and fast-passing motorists heading into the city, and a condensed blue play of colours heading out of the city. Thus the entire sculpture represents water from one side and fire from the other. From the building and when driving around the sculpture, varied views and interplays of both colour worlds open up. The tips of the sculpture develop a slightly swinging dynamic in the wind. 15 curved steel bands with a height of approx. 7 m are painted on both sides. One side of each steel strip is painted in a shade of blue, the other in a shade of red. In this way, the inseparable connection of the elements fire and water is shown in every single strip of the sculpture. Due to the differentiated colouring and alignment of the steel strips, the sculpture shows itself with clearly different coloured faces. With the sculpture "Fire and Water", the spatial situation between landscape and city, at the main entrance of the fire station, gains a clear marking and, from the upper slope, an attractive vertical eye-catcher visible from afar.
