The degree programme at GRS brings together elite students from all over the world and a wide range of disciplines. The art reflects their work: complex thought models for…
…simulations are developed together with the utmost concentration, summarised in programmes and calculated on one of the world's largest privately used supercomputers at Forschungszentrum Jülich. The bright signal dots in the mesh visualise the insights of the connected strands of thought. The two-storey wall of the exterior façade to be designed is interrupted by two narrow windows one above the other and framed between the wall pane and the glass entrance area. The circle symbolises the whole, the comprehensive, the complex - for extreme concentration. In Jülich, it also symbolises the coming together of students from all over the world. Formally, the circle echoes the curve of the roof and leads into the interior of the building. A net is inscribed in the earthy coloured circle. Strands of thought from different disciplines in the natural and engineering sciences are brought together in the GRS. The green and yellow network is an excerpt, is in the process of growth, creative development and expansion. The links in the network visualise the findings, results and solutions of these connected strands of thought. They are highlighted as signal points with bright colours. Alongside theory and experiment, the study of simulation is the third main component of research and is therefore important and forward-looking for science. This is visualised by the energetic radiance with a luminous long-distance effect. The design "Networking" reflects the work in the GRS on the building envelope and in this way supports the presence of the study of simulation in the Jülich Research Centre. Realisation 2011
